Just Parked
Tremaine Lofton graduated from Central with a C average and no plan anybody would call one. He sold phone cases at a Market Place Mall kiosk for $9.50 an hour, then did two years in a warehouse across town.
He wasn't in trouble. He was parked.
The scary part, he says now, is how normal parked felt. Everybody around him was parked too.
I had a C average at Central. One Parkland certificate changed my whole tax bracket.
The Cert
A guy on his warehouse shift was studying for a networking certificate at Parkland and wouldn't shut up about it. Tremaine signed up half to prove the guy wrong about him. The program cost less than the rims he'd been saving for.
He finished the certificate at twenty-four and got hired into an IT department within three months. Now he's a network administrator, the person they call when the whole building goes down. No bachelor's degree, no debt. His badge opens the server room, and he still thinks that's funny.
