Real men. Real paths.

Some kids in this town have never met a man who made it out of the exact spot they're standing in. Not a celebrity. Not somebody on TV. A man from here, who sat in the same classrooms and walked the same blocks, and found a way.

CU For Real is a film series about those men. Each one tells his own story, the real version, including the parts that usually get left out. No lectures. No filter. Just proof.

What's on this site

The Men is the heart of it: the films, plus a written story for every man. You can filter them by the road they took, or flip on Made Here to see just the ones who grew up on these blocks. A few profiles are marked SAMPLE while the series grows. Those show what's coming; the films marked with episode numbers are real.

Paths is the how. Ten different ways men from here have built a life: college, the trades, the military, business, music, and more. Each path has a step-by-step plan a teenager can actually follow, and a list of real programs in Champaign-Urbana with what they cost (most are free), who they're for, and exactly how to take the first step. Not just links. The phone numbers and the walk-in addresses.

Things To Do is for right now. Safe places in this town to hoop, record music, build things, find a paid summer job, or just be somewhere good with your people. Most are free or a couple of dollars, and most are on a bus line.

Some of the men share contact info on their profiles. If one of their stories hits you, reach out. That button exists because they said yes.
